EURO-BASIN Mid-Term Synthesis Workshop
6-8 Nov 2012 (Lisbon)

The Mid-term Synthesis series of workshop will take place 6-8 November, at the Hotel Mundial, Lisbon. The workshop will be structured around themes that span trophic chain from biogeochemistry to bio-economics, and sessions co-chaired by European (EU) and North American (NA) investigators.

The scope of the workshop will be to:

- showcase scientific progress on the main EURO-BASIN research themes;
- strengthen joint EU-US proposals based on invited talks (e.g. NSF Feb 2013);
- seek advice from the International Expert Advisory Panel (invited to the meeting).

Sessions Format:

Each session will focus on a research theme for appox 3 hrs, and will be lead by a chair from the EU, and a North American provocateur, following the format:
International BASIN Science Plan

  • EU Chair: Overview of EURO BASIN research in the global framework, and areas for future activities within that theme beyond the programme (1 Hr);

  • NA Provocateur: Complimentary efforts in North America with reference to the International BASIN Science Plan (30-45 min);

  • Open Discussion lead by Provocateur & Chair, towards potential collaborations, joint proposals or other opportunities of extending current research towards a more coordinated, regional effort on the North Atlantic (1 1/2 Hr);

  • EU and NA co-chairs appoint a rapporteur to summarize key discussion towards objectives;
